Glass Painting

This finding other ways to be creative is really working for me!! Here's a check off of my "To-Craft" List. I got the idea from a Woman's Day Craft book from the library. Here's the page:And here's how I went about it. I used this glass paint set I picked up at Michael's with a coupon!!! And the glass plate I already had at home.
The book said to trace the butterfly on some paper and tape them around the plate. That was too much work for me so I just took a wipe marker and drew them on the TOP of the plate. Then turn the plate over and paint on the BOTTOM. It needed an hour to dry between the black outline and the inside color. And this is what turned out. I'm super excited with how it looks!!!I've got glass bowls that I'll use one of to make a little set. Who knows? Maybe this'll be the first thing I try to sell. Any takers?? :)

5 Minute Chocolate Mug Cake

My aunt cecy sent me this email a while ago and I always had intention to try it out. Well about 2 weeks ago, Luke and I got a serious cake itch but I really didn't feel like taking the time out to make a whole cake. It was also really late and we didn't want to wait. Then I remembered this email and luckily had everything I needed in my pantry. It was pretty yummy. Not AMAZING, but it definetly got rid of the itch. Here's the recipe:

- 4 tablespoons flour
-4 tablespoons sugar
-2 tablespoons cocoa
-1 egg
-3 tablespoons milk
-3 tablespoons oil
-3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
-a small splash of vanilla extract
-1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again. Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts (high). The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed! Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired. EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous). And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world? Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

Note: These pictures were part of the email that was sent to me, not my own.

Knitting

As you read in the previous post, my sewing machine is broken and there's just no fixing it or buying a new one at the moment. My husband challenged me to find other ways to be creative and here's the result:My grandmother taught me how to knit (again) when I was in Arizona last month. I then saw this book at the library and went at it!
I don't really know what I'm going to do with these squares as they were just me seeing if I could do it but we'll see what happens. I'm also still also quite confused about a lot of it like, floating the tails, how many balls to use and when and winding in the tails and all that jazz. I'll hit up my friend Jamie for those lessons. But, for my first try, I say, not so bad. Luke encouraged me by saying that my sewing machine was broken so that God could show me other ways that I could be creative. So praise God!!!

Catastrophe!

My sewing machine is broken! AHHHHHH! I'm so frustrated! I just spent an hour an half and practically a whole spool of thread just trying to sew on a tiny peice of velcro!! Ahhhh! It's messed up before but this is quite enough. So, what shall I do with my sewing itch and no sewing machine!?!? I guess I'll pick my kntting back up!

The Scrap Exchange

As I was "craiglisting" for a new stove and came across this store.

It's in Durham so I had to drive a little bit but it was well worth it. This place was FULL of fun amazing things. Mostly, scraps, of course. You can't find things that are necessarily functional but it's certainly a crafters heaven. I was so overwhelmed with ideas. I literally had to take a deep breath. I should've brought a notebook to write things in. Anywho, check out the website and get inspired!

Taggie Ball

Sorry for the one month delay in posts. Lots going on.

Okay, if there's one thing you should know about me, I'm FRUGAL!!! I DO NOT like spending money and LOVE to find ways to save some cash.

I saw this taggie ball at Dillard's for $22!
I bought this striped fabric at Joanne's for $1! All the other supplies, I already had at home, costing me a total of MAYBE $3. I cranked it all out in about an hour, just in time for my baby shower the next day!! I know it's not perfect. I still have some tweeking to do but like I always say "it's the imperfections that make it perfect!"
